Project Title DCIS and BRCA1 and BRCA2 Study

Study Summary The goal of this study is to learn more about the genetic material, called DNA, of women who have had DCIS and have the BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation. This DNA can be obtained through a saliva sample. Studying DNA might help us to better understand the prognosis and outcome for this group of women and to find out whether there is a relationship between DCIS, BRCA1 and BRCA2.
Who Can Participate? You can join the DCIS, BRCA1 and BRCA2 Study if you match ALL of these MAIN categories:
•You have had an initial diagnosis of only DCIS (This means no invasive breast cancer at the time you first received your diagnosis of breast cancer. You are still eligible if you have invasive breast cancer if the invasive breast cancer was diagnosed at least six months after the DCIS)
•You have been tested and found to have a genetic mutation in either BRCA 1 or BRCA 2
•You are over 20 years old
The researcher may ask you additional questions to be sure that this study is a good fit for you.
What Does Participation Involve? If you join the DCIS, BRCA1 and BRCA2 Study you will be asked to take part in a phone interview in which study personnel will ask you questions about your medical and family history. You will then be sent a kit in which you will collect saliva and mail it back to the researcher at no cost to you. This study needs approximately 200 women to enroll.
Where? Anywhere in the world. You don't have to leave your house to participate. Everything is done by mail and over the phone.
